(Note: this review is based solely on the demo.)

Today I will be reviewing Kindoms of Amular: Reckoning. This game is one that I have just recently heard about through Vinesauce and other media outlets, and I decided to see for myself just how badly EA could fuck up a promising-looking game.

Forgotten Gaming: Handhelds

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

The first handheld gaming console was released by the Milton Bradley Company late in 1979. This mysterious device with a whopping 32 nibbles of RAM (that’s 16 bytes) and a 16 x 16 resolution was known as Microvision. With a staggeringly small pool of games (around a dozen), little support from a fragile gaming industry, and high hardware failure rates, it’s no wonder it had a short 4 year life-span. It was an ambitious step in gaming history; to take video games wherever you wanted. However it was ahead of its time. These were the dark ages of video games after all. It would take Nintendo revitalizing the video game industry with the NES to spark interest in the idea of a portable console and it would be Nintendo to first put out such a thing nearly a decade after Microvision; the Game Boy. Christmas Memories of Intellivision

Being an old fart means I got to see a myriad of horrible console spin-offs (Pong clones) but the first console we ever owned was Mattel’s Intellivion. Much of my childhood memories fade away with age but the day my dad brought home the Intellivion from Sears is as vivid and fresh as any. Continue reading

Everyone knows Nintendo has done a lot of experimentation for the sake of creating better video games and game experiences. Hell, the Wii and 3DS consoles can proudly testify to that. But over the years there have been various paks, light guns, and odd controllers that have done everything from adding rumble to acting as a scale. Some of them hit it big, some of them bombed, and I’m here to tell you of a few that succeeded. Continue reading

Why the duck in Link to the Past is so badass

Link to the past. A great game, fantastic even. But why was it so good? Critics have offered many reasons. It started a lot of Zelda traditions and had great puzzles. It had a great story and adventure feeling. These reasons are fine, but they are missing the clear winning point of Link to the Past.

The Duck.

This duck is your fast traveling buddy. Capable of carrying ~150+ pounds of a Hylian and his extremely large inventory. Called into life from a slab of STONE by a awesome theme, this duck is a memorable addition to a great game.

The duck rips through concrete to take Link on ADVENTURE

Zelda Timeline Revealed?

Now, for me, knowing about a thing like the “Official Timeline” in the Zelda franchise is hardly important. I can accept that each game contains a new iteration of the heroes, villains, and places of the previous games. Nintendo does a pretty good job at starting things over with enough familiarity to keep me… Continue reading

Music in Games

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Submitted by BossEpoch

I was recently thinking to myself about the many things that make up a Video Game, one of the things I find of the utmost importance is the music. Before I go into talking about just how important I find the music in games I would like to mention a few other things about games, such as camera controls. Camera controls are one of the things that can completely and utterly ruin a game if they’re bad, but not even be mentioned if they’re good. It baffles me to no end, and this is similar to how I feel about music, but I actually give a darn if it’s good.
